Amino acids and neuro-transmitters

Depression can be helped by certain neuro-transmitters augmented by specific amino acids. Serotonin, dopamine, GABA and glutamate can all be raised or lowered by correct use of these amino acids. Consult with your natural holilstic healthcare provider for help with your depression when it comes to use of amino acid therapy.

No professional politicians

We should remove professional politicians from politics. Whenever someone depends upon politics for their personal survival, they are open to greed, financial persuasion and corruption - basically not representing your interests, but their own. Any position that requires special education should be hired and not elected. A good example are the 6 main senators that have shaped the healthcare bills - their salaries are about $200,000 a year but their political contributions from insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies and other special interests total about 1.2 million dollars per senator. The conflict should be obvious, the American public is not being served. I think limiting a president's term to one non-renewable 6 year term would be one step in the right direction. With no concern for re-election, they would be better serving. Elected positions should be service and not competitions to "win" offices. We need to get back to what government is supposed to be about by ridding the nature of professional "politicianism."

Natural Anti-oxidants

Natural vitamin E contains natural mixed tocopherols which are the main natural anti-oxidants of protection in your body. Vitamin E has been shown useful for cardiac, stroke, youthful vitality and numerous applications. 
Vitamin C provides the 2nd main anti-oxidant system protection. Taking 1000mg to 3000mg per day is generally a good baseline use of vitamin C. Some people believe in taking higher doses of vitamin C daily.
Selenium is the main trace mineral necessary for anti-oxidant protection. I often boost selenium levels by giving it along with the other antioxidants. Selenium has been shown to be useful for anti-cancer therapies. 
Zinc picolinate is the best form of zinc to take as it is the least bothersome to the stomach and most absorbable. Zinc is one of the most deficient minerals in the body and is the fourth requirement for natural anti-oxidant protection. Zinc is especially important for hair, skin and immune system function. I boost zinc for any infection, travel and pre-surgical preparation to lessen the likelihood of infection. Zinc is also very useful for preventing macular problems. I believe people should supplement these 4 nutrients once a year for preventative health. After essential nutrients, I believe these anti-oxidants are the next most important to put into your body today.

Sun-sitting

One of the treatments I use for general therapy for depression is "Sun-sitting." For 15-20 minutes in the morning or maybe evening, too, I recommend people sit facing the sun wearing as few clothes as possible. Some people actually gaze at the sun, so that has to be done only when the sun is first arising or setting as too intense sun can cause eye problems. I recommend closing your eyes and facing the sun. You can do this outside or behind a glass door or window. We know the sun helps make vitamin D3 in the skin, so this might be a factor in improving health, because most people are low in vitamin D in their body. People who live far from the equator with less sunlight are known to develop depression more easily. Sun sitting is also a nice quiet time of relaxing and getting in touch with nature.

Carnitine

Carnitine is a useful nutrient to supplement for 60 days if you have low energy. Carnitine helps cells in the body use fatty acids for fuel. In my medical practice I use the form acetylcarnitine as it may be particularly helpful for lowering blood pressure and for re-building unhealthy heart muscle. The reason I say might is because many nutrients have not been fully studied enough to have conclusive knowledge of their benefits. The safety to risk ratio is very favorable, however for most nutrients, and so I use them as currently used.

Meditation and Contemplation

Meditation helps with transcendence. So you don't want to transcend with a distorted and falliable you. Contemplation helps put you in order. That's where you start.
Contemplate, "What am I?" along with "Who am I?"  Follow each question back to an original answer. Keep asking what or why until you are finished. You will know when you are done when no more answers to the original question can be given. Then see how you feel about the answers you determined. NOTE: If you plan on doing these contemplations between 12:05 and 12:10 of your business lunch break, you aren't going to get anything of value. Contemplations of you, as a part of reality, are serious things that will start to establish your real Nature.

Depression - Do YOU have Hidden Depression?

As a practicing doctor in the "trenches" with real people in society, I think just about everyone has "hidden" depression, these days. With the stresses of even happy living, it seems that the majority of people have energy maintenance issues. The problem is many faceted in society, and people are functioning not feeling depressed when in fact they are! The first step is to know what you are doing to develop hidden depression. Hidden Depression is energy disruption foremost, but with deeper ramifications of how you are dealing with society and survival in this more complex world. Are you "hiddenly" depressed?

Co Q 10

Co Q 10 or Coenzyme Q-10 is involved in thermogenesis (metabolic rate), weight loss, energy production and blood pressure. Many nutritionists would consider Co Q 10 the most important vitamin co-factor discovered, it is necessary for so many vital cellular functions. Everyone should probably supplement this co-factor (never buy from grocery stores or "marts" - for their supplement products are junk) sometime. IF you are taking a statin drug to lower your lipid levels, YOU particularly need to take Co Q-10 daily, as statin drugs are known to particularly lower the Co Q 10 levels of the body. AND it seems just about everyone is being prescribed these statin drugs from regular doctors' offices now (I never do).

Fasting For Freedom

Fasting is a great self-healing therapy almost anyone can use. BUT you have to be careful and know something about what you are doing! BEFORE fasting, I suggest you pre-fast with the suggestions in my book, Original Fasting, as I know of no other fasting book that will prepare you for fasting as completely and safely as Original Fasting!
